The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with the Open Society Foundation, Romanians of DC, and Ukraine Focus invite you on Wednesday, May 24 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm to a “Rooftop Reception in Support of Ukrainian Refugees in Moldova.” The event will take place at the Open Society Foundation’s Rooftop located at 1730 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Washington, DC.

The Reception aims to celebrate the rich culture of Moldovans, Ukrainians, and Romanians and will feature a Moldovan wine tasting, Ukrainian and Moldovan folk dances and songs, an auction of wine and art, and opportunities to connect with local organizations and stakeholders among the Moldovan, Romanian, Ukrainian, and U.S. communities of interest and support. All tax-deductible donations made at this event will go towards supporting the work of Moldova for Peace – a civic initiative which provides assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.

The event will also feature keynote remarks by:

  • Derek J. Mitchell, President, National Democratic Institute
  • Congresswoman Diana DeGette
  • Viorel Ursu, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the U.S.

Moldova for Peace (MPP) is a civic initiative and non-partisan NGO movement that was created to provide assistance to refugees following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. MPP works with central and local authorities to identify solutions for the integration of Ukrainian refugees. Moldova for Peace brings together people who recognize and understand the difficulties faced by those who have left their homes and loved ones behind in order to reach safety. Since the beginning of the war, Moldova for Peace has contributed to the efforts to manage the flow of migration from the Ukraine. Your donations will support:

  • Providing kits with products (food, hygiene, for children) through the dopomoha.md platform and the “Moldova-Film” warehouse. Over 5,000 packages are offered weekly.
  • Identification of accommodation in Chișinău and other districts of the country, through a system of connecting requests from refugees with accommodation offers from Moldovan families. More than 4,000 people have been assisted so far.
  • Participating in the process of creating a strategy for identifying safe, individual and adequate housing for medium and long term.
  • Protection of human rights. MPP monitors the protection of refugee rights, facilitate the provision of basic services to vulnerable groups and promote good practices and human rights-based policies in managing the refugee crisis.
  • Services. On dopomoha.md there are requests in the field of consular, legal, psychological, medical or education. MPP provides information, assistance and redirect to the responsible institutions. Over 300 requests were fulfilled.
