August 13, 1965. As Beatlemania continues to grip the nation, the Fab Four land in New York City, preparing for a monumental sold-out show at Shea Stadium. TV broadcasters, radio stations and adoring fans all clamor to get a piece of John, Paul, George and Ringo, swarming their hotel and raucous press conference. Hand-illustrated characters, superimposed onto the documentary footage, take us through this legendary day, utilizing actual (and imagined) diary entries from those who lived it. Romanian filmmaker Andrei Ujică (The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceaușescu) spent 10 years sifting through archival material, including sourcing 8mm home video footage off eBay, to create something transcendent: an ode to a time and city long gone, a nation on the cusp of a social revolution and a band who changed the world. Official Selection, 2024 Venice and New York Film Festivals. DIR/SCR/PROD Andrei Ujică; PROD Anamaria Antoci, Ronald Chammah. Romania/France, 2024, color, 86 min. In English, French and German with English subtitles. Not Rated
