Embassy of Romania Open House

May 10 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

On Saturday, May 10 the Delegation of the European Union to the United States and the Embassies of the 28 EU Member States to the United States will celebrate Europe Day with EU Open House – opening their doors to the public so that Americans can catch a glimpse of the European cultures that make up the European Union. Normally you have to cross the Atlantic to visit the EU, but at Open House, you just have to cross the street! The event offered visitors a rare look inside the embassies and provided a unique opportunity for them to experience the cultural heritage and national traditions of the 28 member countries. On that day, all the embassies will open their doors to the public from 10 am until 4 pm.

For this year edition of the EU Open House, the Embassy of Romania will actually open to the public the Residence of the Romanian Ambassador located at 3003 Massachusetts Avenue, NW in Washington, DC. There you will have an opportunity to not only visit the beautiful building but also to explore Romanian traditions and culture through a special exhibition. Enjoy exciting performances of Romanian folk dances and songs throughout the day.

RSVPs are not required. Entrance to all of the Embassies and the shuttle service is free, although some Embassies may have food or other items for sale.

This event falls every year on the first Saturday after Europe Day on May 9. This date marks the signing of the Schuman Declaration on May 9, 1950, which established the European Coal and Steel Community, a multinational entity that would eventually become the European Union as we know it today.

For security reasons, all visitors aged 16 and over must bring valid photo identification to EU Open House Day. We recommend that guests avoid bringing over-sized bags, as all Embassies will conduct security inspections. While you may bring a camera, please be aware that certain Embassies will prohibit photography. Additional info about the EU Open house available at: www.euopenhouse.org.
