The Voice Crying in the Wilderness – Movie

December 3, 2023 @ 3:00 pm

You are cordially invited to the U.S. premiere of the movie The Voice Crying in the Wilderness (Glasul care strigă-n pustie), in the presence of the director, Rev. Ciprian Mega on Sunday, December 3 at 3:00 pm at the AMC Tysons Corner 16 (Auditorium 2) located at 7850 Tysons Corner Center in McLean, VA.

In The Voice Crying in the Wilderness starring Costel Cașcaval, Ela Ionescu and Dorel Vișan, director Rev. Ciprian Mega captures a communist Romania in which an Orthodox priest, a former political prisoner, becomes the only voice that can be heard in an oppressive silence. His sermons constitute a spiritual revolution and a call to a national revival. The Church hierarchy betrays him, and the atheistic State throws him into prison. Father Gheorghe Calciu Dumitreasa becomes the symbol of resistance to the demon with an ideological face.

Father Calciu, served for many year as the priest at the Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church near Baileys Crossroads. He was a hero to his religious brethren and to anti-communists around the world for standing up for his beliefs despite long prison terms, torture and death threats. He was released from prison after supporters, including then-President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H.W. Bush, pressured Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. Father Calciu was forced into exile in 1985 and subsequent to his move to the U.S., lived in Northern Virginia. You can read more about his life in his Washington Post Orbituary
